On Friday, November 1, Northside will be celebrating their 7th annual Jesus Prom. It is an event that brings together our church family to provide an exciting evening for the special needs community.

There are 18 teams to choose from to serve at Jesus Prom. Please look through the descriptions below to see where your abilities and passion lead you. The minimum age to serve is 16. The team leader may allow someone younger to serve under special circumstances. Contact the team leader for permission before filling in the registration.

Decorations.jpg

Team Leader:  Lisa Reeder

Team members needed:  20

Team members work during the months before prom to design and construct the decorations.  When serving on this team you can choose to either help in creating the decorations or you can choose to pick a night the week of prom to put up the decorations.

Time Commitment:  any or all of the following

October 30 after 3:00 p.m.

October 31 after 3:00 p.m.

November 1 during the day

Team Leader: Kelsy O’Neill and Emily Sanders

Team members needed:  8

This team provides care for the volunteer’s children while they are serving during the event.  This is for children age 12 and below.  A snack is provided during the evening.  Children remain in the designated room throughout the evening.

Time Commitment:  Friday, Nov. 1 from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m.

Hair-Makeup.jpg

Team Leaders:  Steve and Amanda Merkle

Team members needed:  12

Team members will provide professional hair services to guests who desire to have their hair styled.  Some members will apply makeup or give hand massages.  Stylists are asked to bring their own supplies other than combs which will be provided.

Time Commitment:  Friday, Nov. 1 from 5:30 p.m. until all guests wanting their hair or make up done have been completed.

Team Leader:  Ken Ekers

Team members needed:  unlimited

Team members will meet in the main lobby at 5:30 p.m. for instructions.  Then you will form a welcome line at the front doors for the guests to pass through as you cheer and encourage the guests.  Afterward, you will go to the Worship Center and cheer on the guests as they perform some of their favorite songs,  The last guests will perform at 9:15 p.m.  then join everyone on the dance floor for the last dance.  Parents are invited to bring their children with them provided that they are supervised at all times.

Time Commitment:  Friday, Nov. 1 at 5:30 – 9:15 p.m.

Team Leader:  Renee Davies

Team members needed:  10

Team members will line the red carpet and take pictures as our guests enter the front doors.  You will also take pictures throughout the evening and give the card from your camera to the team leader to upload them to a computer set up in the Nursery.   Members should have a digital camera with a flash and SD card or equivalent so pictures can be uploaded and the card returned.  Pictures taken from a phone cannot be transferred. 

Time Commitment:  Friday, Nov. 1 from 5:45 – 9:30 p.m.

Team Leaders:  Clint and Noreen Fauss

Team members needed:  6

Team members will draw the names of winners and place guest’s name on the basket and deliver it to the hospitality tables.  Team members will help with set up and numbering the baskets before the night of prom.

Time Commitment:  Friday, Nov. 1 from 5:15 p.m. until all baskets have been delivered to the Hospitality area.  Members will be contacted to help with numbering and set up on Thursday or Friday prior to the prom.

Tux and Dress Distribution.jpg

Team Leader:  Stephanie Hawkins

Team members needed:  4

Team members will help guests pick out a dress from those provided.  Dresses will be sent home when they are chosen.  Members will also assist the representative from MayaTux on the evening when the men are fitted for their tux.  The tuxes will be distributed on a date set up by MayaTux. 

Time commitment:  You will be notified by the team leader as to the exact dates and times for both dress and tux distribution.

Team Leader:  Tim Brown

Team members needed:  21

Team members will show the guests how to play the games and assist the guests as they play the carnival-style games.

Time Commitment:  Fri., Nov. 1 from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m. for active game play plus game clean up at the end of the evening

Hospitality.jpg

Team Leaders:  Mary Beth and Jim Jensen

Team members needed:  20

Team members will welcome and sign in the guests and caregivers, give directions, hand out corsages, provide water bottles throughout the evening, stuff guest favor bags, and distribute prize baskets at the end of the evening.

Time Commitment:  Friday, Nov. 1 from 5:00-9:30 p.m.

Team Leaders:  Dave and Mary Ann Balas

Team members needed:  10

Team members will work in the kitchen helping get food ready to be served.  Food will be served buffet style.  Team members will help clean up the kitchen after all guests have eaten.

Time Commitment:  Friday, Nov. 1, from 4:00 p.m. until the banquet hall is cleaned up

Team Leaders:  Dave and Laura Singleton

Team members needed:  10

Minimum age:  21

Team members will help direct traffic and greet guests as they arrive in the parking lot.  Also, they will direct the traffic flow in the drop off area to keep 2 lines moving at all times.  After the guests have arrived, you will provide security inside the building for guests and volunteers.

Time Commitment:  Required meeting on Sunday morning before Jesus Prom.

Friday, Nov.1 from 5:00 – 9:30 p.m.

Respite Room.jpg

Team Leaders:  Will and Nancy Hawkins

Team members needed:  10

Team members will serve the parents and caregivers of the guests dinner and help provide a place where they can relax during the event.

Time Commitment:  Thursday, Oct. 31 will be set up.  You will receive information from your team leaders for the exact time.  Friday, Nov. 1 from 5:30 p.m. until the tables are cleared and the room is cleaned up.

 Team Leader:  Jerry Koenig

Team members needed:  20

Team members will set up banquet tables and chairs in both the banquet hall and upstairs respite room.  The team will also setup extra tables needed in photography rooms, hospitality, and throughout the church where the prom will be held.

Time Commitment:  Thursday, October 31 after 4:00 p.m. and Friday, November 1 at 9:30 p.m. until cleanup is complete.

Team Leader:  Faith Williams

Team members needed:  200

Team members will assist our guests throughout the evening helping them to enjoy all the different activities.  Since this year we are pairing the guides with their guests right after they enter the building and receive their red carpet experience, the guide must be here by 5:30 p.m.  The good news is all guides will be provided dinner with their guest.  The guide is the core of the evening and helps the guest to enjoy all of the activities that are planned.

Time Commitment:  Friday, Nov. 1 from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m.

Dinning Room.jpg

Team Leader:  Doug and Paula Lewis

Team members needed:  8

Team members will greet the guests at the banquet hall door and take them safely to their seat.  Guests will eat at staggered times so once a guest and their guide have finished eating, the team members will help with clearing the table and preparing it for the next guest.  The servers and the host/hostesses will work together on this and let the leaders know that seats are available for another guest.  Seating ends at 8:00 p.m.  However, team members are asked to stay and help the servers clean up the banquet hall.

Time Commitment:  Friday, Nov. 1, from 5:15 – until the banquet hall is cleaned.

Team members needed:  4

Team members will need to be present throughout the evening in case of a medical emergency.  You must be a registered nurse or certified EMT or higher. 

Time Commitment:  Friday, Nov. 1, from 5:45 p.m. until all guests leave the building.

Photography-Assistant.jpg

Team Leader:  Sherry Koenig

Team members needed:  12

Team members will assist one of the three photographers by greeting the guests, recording information to identify the guests, and helping to direct the guests to the backdrop area.

Time Commitment:  Friday, Nov. 1 from 5:30 – 9:00 p.m.  Once the photographers finish taking pictures at 9:00 p.m., the team will help with clean up of the room where they were working.

Team Leader:  Laura Lea Frank

Team members needed:  20

Team members will assist the guests after they go through the buffet line.  Each team member will have tables to be responsible for by providing drinks and helping the guests and the guides at their tables.  When someone is finished eating and leaves the table, the server will remove all plates, placemats, etc. and put down clean placemats and cutlery for the next guests.  The server will then notify the hostess stand that these spaces are now available.

Time commitment:  Friday, Nov. 1 from 5:30 p.m. until the banquet hall is cleaned.
