On Friday, November 3, Northside will celebrate their 10th annual Jesus Prom. This is an evening we set aside to celebrate and serve our special needs community.

All our teams have been filled, but you can still participate as part of our Karaoke Crowd. (Childcare is full and no longer available) To be a part of the karaoke crowd, arrive by 5:30pm, enter the north doors and meet in the lobby (look for Ken Ekers)

DECORATIONS TEAM

Team Leader:  Lisa Reeder

Team members needed:  20

Team members work during the months before prom to design and construct the decorations.  When serving on this team, you can choose to either help in creating decorations ahead of time or you can choose to put up decorations during the week of Jesus Prom.

Time Commitment:  any or all of the following:

November 1 after 3:00 p.m.

November 2 after 3:00 p.m.

November 3 during the day

GAMES TEAM

Team Leaders:  Vicky Whitacre & Nicholas Whitacre

Team members needed:  18

Team members will show the guests how to play the games and assist the guests as they play the carnival-style games.

Time Commitment:  Friday, Nov. 3 from 5:30 – 9:00 p.m. for active game play plus game clean-up at the end of the evening

HOSPITALITY TEAM

Team Leaders:  Mary Beth and Jim Jensen

Team members needed:  8

Team members will welcome and give information to the guests and caregivers.  This will include providing directions as guests enter the building, handing out name tags to those registered for the caregivers room, preparing glow sticks to be handed out to guests, and distributing take home gifts at the end of the evening.

Time Commitment:  Friday, Nov. 3 from 5:00-9:30 p.m.

KITCHEN TEAM

Team Leaders:  Dave and Mary Ann Balas

Team members needed:  10

Team members will assist the cooks by dishwashing and transferring the food to the buffet. Food will be served buffet style. Team members will help clean up the kitchen after all guests have eaten.

Time Commitment:  Friday, Nov. 3, from 4:00 p.m. until the banquet hall is cleaned up

SECURITY & PARKING LOT TEAM

Team Leaders:  Dave and Laura Singleton

Team members needed:  8

Minimum age:  21

Team members will help direct traffic and greet guests as they arrive in the parking lot.  Also, they will direct the traffic flow in the drop-off area to keep 2 lines moving at all times.  After the guests have arrived, the team will provide security inside the building for guests and volunteers.

Time Commitment:  Required meeting on Sunday morning before Jesus Prom.

Friday, Nov. 3 from 5:00 – 9:30 p.m.

CAREGIVERS ROOM TEAM
Team Leaders:  Will and Nancy Hawkins

Team members needed:  12

Team members will serve the parents and caregivers of the guests dinner and help provide a place where they can relax during the event.

Time Commitment:  Thursday, Nov. 2 will be set up.  You will receive information from your team leaders for the exact time.  Friday, Nov. 3 from 5:30 p.m. until the tables are cleared and the room is cleaned up.

SETUP/TEARDOWN TEAM

Team Leader:  Brian Wood

Team members needed:  20

Team members will set up banquet tables and chairs in both the banquet hall and upstairs caregiver’s room. The team will also setup extra tables needed in photography rooms, hospitality, and throughout the church where the prom will be held.

Time Commitment:

Thursday, November 2 after 4:00 p.m. and Friday, November 3 at 9:30 p.m. until cleanup is complete.

GUIDES TEAM

Team Leader:  Faith Williams

Team members needed:  150

Team members will assist our guests throughout the evening, helping them to enjoy all the different activities that are offered. Right after our guests enter the building and receive their red-carpet experience, we will pair the guests with their guides. Although this team’s 5:30pm arrival time is imperative, the good news is all the guides will be provided dinner with their guest. As well as dining with their guest, guides will also help their guest to experience everything this evening offers – from getting their pictures taken to karaoke, games, and dancing! This team may leave tired, but also with some very special memories! 

(There will be several emails and letters with specific details sent before the night of the prom.)

HOST & HOSTESS TEAM

Team Leaders:  Doug and Paula Lewis

Team members needed:  6

Team members will greet the guests at the banquet hall door and take them safely to their seat. Seating ends at 8:00 p.m. However, team members are asked to stay and help the servers clean up the banquet hall.

Time Commitment:  Friday, Nov. 3, from 5:15 – until the banquet hall is cleaned.

MEDICAL TEAM

Team Leader:  Heather Ekers

Team members needed:  4

Team members will need to be present throughout the evening in case of a medical emergency.  You must be a registered nurse or certified EMT or higher. 

Time Commitment:  Friday, Nov. 3, from 5:30 p.m. until all guests leave the building.

GIFTS TEAM

Team Leader: Noreen Fauss

Team Members Needed: 4

Team Members will package gifts to be given to our guests as they leave the prom. This work will be done before the prom.

Time Commitment: The team leaders will contact you with the time for getting the gifts ready to distribute.

 CHILDCARE TEAM

Team Leader: Kelsy O’Neill

Team members needed:  8

This team provides care for the volunteer’s children while they are serving during the event.  This is for children age 12 and younger.  A snack is provided during the evening.  Children remain in the designated room throughout the evening.

Friday, Nov. 3 from 5:15 – 9:30 p.m.

HAIR AND MAKEUP TEAM

Team Leader:  Amy Bowman

Team members needed:  12

Team members will provide professional hair services to guests who desire to have their hair styled.  Some members will apply makeup or give hand massages.  Stylists are asked to bring their own supplies other than combs which will be provided.

Time Commitment:  Friday, Nov. 3 from 5:30 p.m. until all guests wanting their hair or make-up done.

KARAOKE CROWD TEAM

Team Leader:  Ken Ekers

Team members needed:  unlimited

Team members will meet in the main lobby at 5:30 p.m. for instructions. At 6 p.m. you will form a welcome line at the front doors for the guests to pass through as you cheer and encourage them.  Afterward, you will go to the Worship Center and cheer on the guests as they perform some of their favorite songs. The last guests will perform at 9:15 p.m.  We will then join everyone on the dance floor for the last dance. Parent volunteers are invited to bring their children with them provided they are supervised at all times.

Time Commitment:  Friday, Nov. 3 at 5:30 – 9:30 p.m.

PAPARAZZI TEAM

Team Leaders:  Katlin & Aaron Williams

Team members needed:  10

Team members will line the red carpet and take pictures as our guests enter the front doors and take candid photos through the night. Members should have a digital camera with a flash and SD card or equivalent so pictures can be uploaded and the card returned. Pictures taken from a phone cannot be transferred. 

Time Commitment:  Friday, Nov. 3 from 5:45 – 9:30 p.m.

PHOTOGRAPHY ASSISTANT TEAM

Team Leader:  Doris Zigler

Team members needed:  8

Team members will assist one of the photographers by greeting the guests, recording information to identify the guests, and helping to direct the guests to the backdrop area.

Time Commitment:  Friday, Nov. 3 from 5:30 – 9:00 p.m.  Once the photographers finish taking pictures at 9:00 p.m., the team will help with clean-up of the room where they were working.

SERVER TEAM

Team Leaders:  Steve and Amanda Merkle

Team members needed:  12

Team members will assist the guests after they are seated at a table by the hosts. They will help the guests by providing drinks and serving their dessert. When someone is finished eating and leaves the table, the server will remove all plates, placemats, etc. and put down clean placemats and cutlery for the next guests.  The server will then notify the team leader that spaces are now available.

Time commitment:  Friday, Nov. 3 from 5:30 p.m. until the banquet hall is cleaned.
